Life is full of ironies if you're stupid enough to go looking for them. Take last night for example. I leave for Sudan in three days. It isn't understatement to say that Sudan is awash in guns. And yet last night, after having lived (on and off) rather peaceably in Washington, DC for the past eight years, some friends and I got held up at gunpoint. The first thing that came to mind when the guy pulled out the gun and demanded money was how terribly inconvenient the timing was. I mean, c'mon, I don't have time to cancel and get new credit cards! We were so glad to get your Christmas letter! We have your picture on our prayer board. Emma was glad to get news of her friend "with pretty red hair who does crafts." We lost your contact info until today when Jen Felts listed you as one of her favorite blogs. I have just been reading and can't imagine what you have seen and gone through. I am grateful that you are willing to let God use you to show His love in such a dark place. I'm not even sure what to say sitting in my warm, comfortable house having just checked on the kids snugged up in their beds. The only thing I can think of is to say that I will be more faithful in praying for you! I will pray for your physical safety and spiritual encouragement. My email is shellypelletier@earthlink.net Emma would love to hear from you. I don't know if mindless prattle from the States would be encouraging or discouraging? She is always up for explaining the life of a 1st grader - which I think qualifies as mindless prattle!
with much affection!
